New Yokomo curved slide rack

Hello again! The first of the latest Yokomo goodness for me is here, and I am curious. Will it be as good as they describe? Will it stay on my chassis for the next season? Let's dig into it!

I am always happy to see a new Yokomo package. They never disappoint me.

The eccentric bearing posts allow for a perfect adjustment. The slop has no chance here.

Full assembly is complete. It took little bit of playing around, but no major problems. I also cleaned and lubricated the front wheels bearings, so everything runs smoothly.

Don't mind the shitty wiring, it's only temporary. Some initial setup later, I was ready for a test drive.

The first thing I noticed was, that this system does not take advantage of a full range of servo travel. The usable EPA is somewhere around 75-80% for both sides equal. For me personally it brings few problems, resulting to an annoying front wheel wobble.

Normally I would just use a shorter servo horn like with the stock steering and keep using the same settings, but the issue here is, that the ball joint would hit the servo mounting.

I consulted it with a Tonisport driver Florian Fleißer and basically what he said was, that this is normal and I should lower my D/R and gyro gain accordingly. It also means, that I need to get the V4 gyro to adjust the gyro endpoints.

I am still quite curious though, why they have designed it like that. Maybe todays electronics will handle the lower range of motion without problems, so they wanted to take advantage of it and make the steering respond quicker by that. I will try to reach someone from Yokomo and ask.

So far it is too early to make any final judgments. The steering assembly showed to run pretty smooth and sharp, with no slop and the ackermann can be adjusted precisely. I will make the recommended adjustments and see what's its full potential.
